By ferry - The ferry runs from Scrabster (1.5 miles from Thurso) on the Scottish mainland to Stromness daily - for timetables and other details visit www.northlinkferries.co.uk. The cottage is within walking distance of the ferry terminal (10 minutes).

By air - www.flybe.com operate daily flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen to Kirkwall Airport (16 miles/30 minutes from Stromness). There is a bus link to Kirkwall Town Centre, where buses depart for Stromness: www.stagecoachbus.com. You can hire a car at Kirkwall Airport.

By car - via the Scrabster-Stromness ferry www.northlinkferries.co.uk or Gills Bay-St Margaret's Hope (approx 30 miles/40-50 minutes drive from Stromness). Visit www.pentlandferries.co.uk for timetables.

By bus - www.stagecoachbus.com run a service from Inverness to Gills Bay linking to www.pentlandferries.co.uk. www.jogferry.co.uk run the Orkney bus service June to August from Inverness linking to Kirkwall.

By cycle - bikes can be taken on the ferries. There is no indoor storage for bikes at 15 Church Road but there is on-site storage to rear of the property
